Fruits

Shopping

I usually buy my fruits at the organic store, organic wholesale market, or at a farmers’ market. Most of the time, I only have to get fruits once a week. Fruits such as melons and apples store well for more than a week. Bananas, if very green, need to be purchased two weeks in advance to fully ripen.

Storing

I almost never store fruits in the fridge. Fruits store well and ripen better at room temperature. Fruit flies can be a problem though. Ripe watermelons and very ripe papayas sometimes have to be stored in the fridge.

How I eat fruits

I usually eat fruits as they are or make fruit smoothies. Sometimes, I dehydrate fruits or make ice cream. I don’t use fruits for recipes on a daily basis. But when starting out with a raw food diet, fruit-based recipes did bring variety to my table. My favorite fruit recipes are oatmeal with banana and banana ice cream. All recipes are in the recipe section of this book.
