Farmers’ markets
I really enjoy shopping at farmers’ markets, especially on the weekends. The shopping experience here is simply amazing. Growers often sell produce from their own farms and bring rare fruits and veggies you won’t find at the grocery store.
Organic farmers’ markets
In so many parts of the world, organic farmers’ markets are the only place to shop for organically grown fruits, veggies, and greens. Organic farmers’ markets are getting more and more popular everywhere.
Regular farmers’ markets
Isn’t everything organic at the farmers’ market? Not really. But at most farmers’ markets, there is at least a couple of organic stools, these usually have a huge “organic” sign and some kind of a certificate near the register. Even without a certificate, there are farmers who grow naturally and spray-free, but you can never be sure what guidelines they do or do not follow. If you don’t see any sign or certificate it’s safe to assume the produce is grown conventionally. If asked, farmers sometimes use tricky words to describe their practices. Statements like “we grow everything ourselves” or “we only sell produce from our farm” say nothing about how organic the produce is. In many places, farmers will go as far as lying about not using pesticides.
